From time to time, you may come across a situation where you need to reduce the size of your photos, either for convenient sharing on social media or for uploading to a site that has a file size limit. This is where an effective tool that can reduce file size without destroying quality becomes the need of the hour. While reducing the size of images is relatively easy on desktop, the process is not so straightforward on iOS due to the lack of a native tool. But don’t be discouraged as there are many third-party apps that can let you compress photos on your iPhone or iPad without any hassle.

How to Reduce File Size of Photos on iPhone and iPad

After trying a number of photo compression apps, I found three apps to measure up – both in terms of reducing image file sizes faster and working with the necessary efficiency.

Best Photo Compressor Apps for iOS

Compress photos: Very few apps are able to compress images as efficiently as Photo Compress. Moreover, it has a simple interface and reduces file size quite quickly. Apart from handling images, it is also quite good in terms of reducing the size of videos. You can use it on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch running iOS 10.3 or later.

Compress Photos on iOS Using Photo Compression

In this guide, I will be using Photo Compress. As the steps are pretty much the same for the three apps mentioned above, you can use any app to shrink your photos.

  1. Once you have downloaded Photos Compress on your iOS/iPadOS device, launch it. Then press the “+” button top center.

2. Now press Okay to allow the app access to all your photos to help it run smoothly.

To note:

  • In iOS 14 or later, you may get a popup asking for your approval to access your photos.
  • If you don’t want the app to have access to your entire photo library, tap Select pictures. And if you want to give him access to all your photos, select Allow access to all photos.

3. Next, select pictures then press Do top center.

To note:

  • In iOS 14 or later, you will need to select pictures again and press Do if you have allowed the app to access only specific images.

4. On the next screen, you should see the original file size of the images and the percentage file size reduction. After that press To continue proceed.

5. Once the images are compressed, press To finish. Now, you can head to the Photos app to check your compressed images.

Easily compress photos on your iPhone or iPad

This is how you can reduce the file size of images on your iOS device. As stated above, these apps are fully equipped to do more than just fill the void. In addition to compressing images quickly, they also do not destroy quality. Thus, your photos will remain beautiful even after compression.

Although the stock photo app has several nice improvements, such as image sorting, photo filtering, and even video editing, it lacks a useful compression tool. Hopefully Apple adds it as soon as possible.

By the way, which of these apps have you chosen to reduce the file size of images on your device. Also let us know if the app met your expectations.
