Google’s AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) project has been a controversial topic since 2014, when it was launched. Google wanted web pages to load much faster on slower networks and low-end devices by optimizing the web page. Simply put, AMP strips the website down to the bare essentials to lighten the web page. While the idea is great for regions where internet connectivity is an issue, forcing AMP on all users — no matter what internet speed you have — is downright infuriating. So, if you want to disable AMP links on your Android device, here is a simple guide for you. Just follow the instructions and deactivate Google AMP immediately.
Disable AMP Links on Android (2020)
Here we have mentioned two easy ways to block AMP pages on Android smartphones. You can either switch to a new browser or change the search engine. For ease, you can click on the table of contents below to easily jump to the steps.
Use Firefox or Kiwi Browser to Disable AMP Links on Android
1. If you are using Chrome, you will need to switch to Firefox (To free) to disable AMP links on Android. You don’t need to install any add-ons or change settings. Firefox natively disables all AMP links and redirects to the original page. Additionally, Firefox Focus (To free) also disables AMP natively.
2. Apart from this, you can use the Kiwi Browser (To free) to disable AMP links on Android. It is an open source browser built using the same Chromium base but has the option to disable AMP. Just open the 3-dot menu and open Settings. Right here, open “Privacy“.
3. You will find the ” Remove AMP” option right there. Check the box and you’re done. AMP links will now redirect you to the original webpage. By the way, using Kiwi you can also install Chrome extensions on Android.
Change search engine to DuckDuckGo
1. If you don’t want to switch from Chrome to other alternatives and still want to disable AMP, the easiest solution is to change the search engine to DuckDuckGo. DuckDuckGo disables AMP links by default, but you’ll have to accept its limited search results. To change the search engine, open the 3-dot menu and go to “Settings”. Now open “Search Engine”.
2. Here, choose “DuckDuckGo” and that’s it. Now you can go ahead and search the web and there will not crawl AMP links.

So here are the working methods that allow you to disable Google AMP links on your Android Smartphone. Previously, there were several ways such as setting “encrypted.google.com” as the search engine or using the DeAMPify app to disable AMP links. However, these methods don’t seem to work now, so I haven’t included them in this tutorial. Anyway, it all comes from us.
