While most social media apps like Twitter and Instagram embraced dark mode a while ago, Facebook was lagging behind. The social media giant had revealed earlier in 2020 that it was working on a dark mode and would launch it soon. However, the mobile app for iPhone and Android was kept on hold, while the web app and Facebook app had it long before. Finally, the long wait is over as you can now enable dark mode in Facebook on iOS and Android devices.
How to Enable Dark Mode in Facebook on iOS and Android
Although Facebook has yet to officially release details on the dark mode rollout, Facebook’s head of technology communications Alexandru Voica and serial leaker Jane Manchun Wong revealed that dark mode is live.
Note that this is a gradual rollout. So, the feature might not be available on your device yet. Before trying the steps below, make sure to update the social media app.
- On iOS: Open App Store -> Profile Picture. Now find Facebook and update it.
- On Android: Launch Play Store -> Menu button -> My Apps & Games. Locate Facebook, then update it as usual.
Once you have updated the Facebook app on your device, launch it.

4. Then press dark mode.
5. Then you have three possibilities:

- System: Select it if you want Facebook to automatically adjust its appearance based on your device settings.
Depending on your needs, you can choose the preferred option. The change will take effect immediately.
