Apple’s Screen Time comes with plenty of parental control features to help you track your device usage and also block access to things like applications, cameras and even set communication boundaries. Another equally useful parental control feature is the ability to limit adult content on iPhone and iPad. Before handing the iPhone to your child, you should take advantage of this feature to protect your child from offensive content. Whether you want to protect your child from adult content or want to keep anything explicit away from your iOS 14 device, this guide is what you need to get started.
How to Restrict Adult Content on iPhone and iPad
Screen Times offers comprehensive tools for content restrictions on iOS. So, depending on your needs, you can block access to not only shady websites, but also keep explicit books, movies, and TV shows away. Not only that, you can even stop Siri from using explicit language. So if you often see your little child triggering the virtual assistant, be sure to filter out Siri’s language.
What if you want to only allow a handful of kid-friendly websites on your iOS device so your child can continue learning? Well, there is a way to limit adult content and allow access to trusted sites for a more personalized experience. That said, let me walk you through the steps to limit adult content on iPhone and iPad:
- Launch it Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Now press Screen time.
3. Then press Content and Privacy Restrictions.
4. Next, make sure the “Content and Privacy Restrictions” the toggle is on.
5. Then press Content Restrictions.
6. Now enter your Screen passcode. If you forgot your Screen Time password, here are the steps to reset it.
7. Next, locate the ‘Web content’ option and press it.
8. Here you will have three options to choose from: Unlimited access, websites reserved for adults and authorized websites only.
- Unlimited Access: Allow access to adult content on your iPhone or iPad without any restrictions (this is the default option).
- Limit Adult Websites: Restrict access to adult content. When you choose it, you have the option to allow kid-friendly websites and block access to some suspicious websites. You can change the Always Allow and Never Allow sections to your liking.
- Authorized websites only: Allow access only to trusted websites. When you select it, you will see child-friendly websites in the “Only allow these websites” section. You also have the option to add other trusted websites to the list.
I would recommend you to opt for the “Allowed websites only” option to better protect your children’s online browsing experience. It will only allow children to access certain websites. You can expand the list of allowed websites at any time. If you select the “Limit adult websites” option, we also suggest that you limit websites such as Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, Mastodon, Sharesome and others that are known to host adult content.
- If you want to further restrict adult content, go to the “Allowed Store Content” section under Content Restrictions. After that tap on Music, Podcasts, News & Workouts and choose “Clean” to disallow explicit content.
- Then press Movies / TV Shows / Apps / Books and choose the preferred option to keep explicit content at bay. The steps are the same as above.
- In the Siri section, tap Explicit language so what choose “Do not allow” to prevent the personal assistant from using bad language.
