There are times when you need to highlight or zoom in on part of an image to view finer details. Here’s how to use a tool built into iPhone and iPad to magnify part of a photo.

Apple has integrated a magnifying glass feature into the markup tool. If you’re not familiar, the annotation tool is available in several places on iOS and iPadOS. For example, you can access it when you edit an image or PDF in the Files app, as well as when you open an attachment in the Mail app.

To magnify something that is currently on your screen, you can use the screenshot editing feature on iPhone and iPad. Take a screenshot on your device by pressing the side button and the volume down button at the same time. If you are using an older device, press the side button and the home button at the same time.

Next, tap on the “Preview screenshot” button in the lower left corner.

Here, press the “+” button. You will find the option “Magnifier” in the menu that appears.

The process is slightly more complicated when it comes to the Photos app. Open the image you want to enlarge in the “Photos” application, then press the “Edit” button in the upper right corner.

Press the three-dot Menu button located in the upper right corner of the screen.

You will now see a magnifying circle in the middle of the image. You can drag it over the part of the photo you want to zoom in.

The blue dot will help you increase and decrease the size of the magnifying glass. Press it and slide your finger in or out to change the size.

You can use the green dot to change the magnification level. Swipe right to zoom in and left to zoom out.

When you select the circle, you will find options to cut, copy, delete and duplicate the magnifying glass.

When you’re done making changes, tap the “Done” button at the top of the screen.

From the image editing screen, tap the “Done” button at the bottom of the screen.

You will now see your edited photo in the photo gallery. You can share your enlarged photo using an email or messaging application.
