In a bid to make its services less offensive to some users, Google launched a new control in Ads Settings this month, allowing users to stop alcohol and gambling ads on YouTube. The new experience, which is beta deployment for YouTube in the US, will expand to Google Ads and roll out globally for both platforms early next year. Here we will show you how to enable the feature for your account.

Stop alcohol and gambling ads on YouTube and Google

Vice ads can be an annoyance to many, so Google’s new policy is certainly a welcome step. Here we will show you how to enable this option with just a few simple clicks. Note that the feature is still in beta and only applies to YouTube ads at this time. However, it will be applicable to all Google ads on the web next year. That said, here’s how you can disable alcohol and gambling ads on YouTube for real.

  • First of all, sign in to Google and go to Ads Settings page in a web browser. At the very top, you’ll see a toggle for “Ads Personalization.”

To note: Ads Personalization is turned on by default, and it must remain turned on for you to turn off vice ads..

  • Scroll down to “Ad Categories on YouTube”. Click/tap on the “See less” button in the “Alcohol” and “Gambling” options. Confirm if asked.

That’s it. You have now successfully disabled alcohol and gambling ads on YouTube. It will stay that way until you change your mind and turn it back on.

Block Google from showing Vice ads on YouTube and other websites

Note that the service is currently in beta and is only available to certain users at this time. Google announced plans to roll it out globally in early 2021, giving users more control over the types of ads they want to see on Google Search and other Google platforms.
