Create a Tab Group in Safari on iPhone and iPad
Creating a Safari tab group on iOS 15 is as easy as it gets, only if you know where it all begins. And it’s
- To start, run Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Now press the tab button (looks like cascading squares) located in the lower right corner of the screen.
3. Then press the “X tabs” button with a down arrow in the middle to access the tab group menu.
4. Next, press the “ New empty tab group” optional.
5. Next, give your tab group an appropriate name and press OK to finish.
That’s it! Your brand new Safari tab group is ready. All new tabs, including private ones, will open in this tab group until you decide to change it.
Rearrange Safari Tab Groups in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15
Notably, you can also rearrange tab groups in Safari so that they appear according to your needs. And the steps to do it are very simple.
- Launch Safari on your iOS or iPadOS device and tap the tabs button.
2. Next, tap the tab group name in the middle below.
3. Next, press the “ Edit” in the upper left corner of the pop-up window. After that, touch and hold the three horizontal lines next to a tab group and drag it to the desired location. At the end, be sure to press ” Ended” to confirm the changes.
Rearrange Tabs in Safari Tab Groups on iOS or iPadOS 15
Safari also lets you rearrange your tabs into a tab group by title or website so that finding specific websites remains a hassle-free affair. Follow the steps below to learn how it works.
- Launch Safari and press the tabs bottom left button.
2. Now go ahead and rearrange the tabs. Touch and hold a tab and then drag it at the desired location in the Safari tab group on your iOS 15 device.
To note: If you want to rearrange tabs from another tab group, tap the tab group name located in the bottom center. After that, choose the tab group whose tabs you want to rearrange.
3. Interestingly, you can also organize Safari tabs by title or website. To do this, long-press any tab thumbnail, then choose the “Arrange Tabs by Title” or “Arrange Tabs by Website” option.
Move a Tab to Another Safari Tab Group on iPhone and iPad
- Open Safari and tap the button tabs in the lower right corner. Alternatively, you can also swipe up the search bar to view all tabs.
2. Now long press on a tab and then choose Move to tab group. After that, select the preferred tab group you want to move it to, and you’re good to go!

- Head to Safari -> tabs button then tap the tab group name at the bottom to access your custom tab groups.
2. Now, swipe left on a tab group name and press the ” pencil » icon. After that, enter the new name of the tab group and press Okay to finish.
To note: There are several ways to rename a Safari tab group. You can also tap the Edit button and then tap the small circle with three dots next to a tab group. After that, tap “Rename” from the pop-up menu. Also, you can long press on a tab group and choose Rename from the pop-up window.
Close All Tabs in a Safari Tab Group in iOS 15
- Open Safari and long press the tabs button in the lower right corner.
2. Now press the Close all “X” tabs option. After that press Close all “X” tabs again in the pop-up window to confirm your action.
Pro tips:
- Alternatively, you can press the tabs button and then long press on any open tab. After that, select “Close other tabs” to close all tabs in the tab group except this one.
- Additionally, you can tap the tabs button (or swipe up on the search bar) and then long-press Done to reveal the Close all “X” tabs option.
- iOS 15 also offers a way to automatically close all Safari tabs. Head to Settings -> Safari -> Close Tabs, then select the time you want tabs to be closed automatically.
How to Delete Safari Tab Group on iPhone and iPad
If you no longer use a Safari tab group, you can easily delete it. Keep in mind that when you delete a tab group, all of its open tab groups will be automatically closed.
- Launch Safari and press the button tabs. After that, tap on the tab group name in the bottom center to view a full list of groups.
2. Now touch and hold a group of tabs and choose ” To delete “ in the context menu. Additionally, you can also swipe left on a group of tabs and then tap the red trash button.
3. Now a pop-up window will appear warning you that all its tabs will be closed immediately. Faucet ” To delete to confirm the action.
