The PlayStation 5 brings a brand new controller called DualSense. This is an upgrade over the last generation DualShock 4 controller that shipped with the PS4 and PS4 Pro and brings several changes. One of the things you’ll notice is that the ‘Share’ button is now called ‘Create’. This button lets you take screenshots, record clips, and even stream content. Use the Create button to take screenshots and record clips
As I said above, most often you use the “Create” button to take screenshots or record clips. Here’s how you can do it.
Take a screenshot
To take a screenshot with your DualSense controller, simply press and hold the “Create” button on your controller. You will soon see a screenshot icon in the upper right corner of your screen with a check mark.
Alternatively, you can tap the “Create” button and then select the “Take screenshot” option to click a screenshot.

To save a clip of your recent gameplay, simply double tap the “Create” button on your DualSense controller.
You can also press the “Create” button, then select “Save recent game”. This also gives you two options, by the way. You can choose to record a short clip ranging from 15 seconds to 30 minutes; or you can record a full video (up to 60 minutes).
Change default clip recording duration
If you’re like me, you probably mostly record video clips by double-tapping the “Create” button on your DualSense controller. In this case, you may want to adjust the recording duration to ensure that the game you wanted to record is actually recorded. Here’s how.
- Go to Settings -> Captures & Broadcasts.
- Here, go to “Shortcuts for the Create button” under the “Snapshots” category.
- Select “Duration of recent game video clip” and change it to the desired value. You can choose between 15 seconds and 1 hour.
Change screenshot format
By default, the PlayStation 5 captures screenshots in JPEG format. However, if you want, you can change the screenshot format on PS5 quite easily. Just follow the steps below:
- Go to Settings -> Captures & Broadcasts.
- Here, select ‘Screenshot format’ and choose the desired format. You can choose between JPG and PNG.
Use the Create button to stream games
With the PS5, you can also stream your games for everyone to watch. It’s great if you plan to start with PS5 streaming. Note that the PS5 natively supports streaming on Twitch and YouTube.
Simply press the “Create” button to display the creation menu. Click the broadcast icon (the one that looks like a broadcast tower towards the right end of the menu.
You can then choose between Twitch and YouTube to stream your PS5 games. The first time you do this, you’ll need to sign in with your Twitch or YouTube account in order to start streaming on those platforms.

For the most part, the default button mapping for the “Create” button works just fine for me. However, if you don’t feel like it and prefer to change how the “Create” button works on DualSense controllers, you can do that too.
- Go to Settings -> Captures & Broadcasts.
- Here, select “Shortcuts to create a button”.
- Select “Button Mapping” and choose between “Standard”, “Easy Screenshots” or “Easy Video Clips” depending on your preference.
Use the Create button to record video clips and stream PS5 games
So it was all about using the Create button on the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller. While I personally don’t stream games to the public, it’s good to know that the functionality is built into the PS5. That said, I do take a lot of screenshots and video clips from my games to share with friends, especially when I’m doing something even remotely cool in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
